So let’s take about registering for the site.

It’s much like a dating site registration in terms of the fact that you will provide some contact information including:

It almost takes the form of a questionnaire, well certain sections of it anyway.

Well, Love Me is certainly different.

And it took me quite a while to work out exactly where everything was in terms of the overall design.

The site isn’t too badly designed and is primarily blue and white, which is appealing.

But if I am honest, it does look a little dated.

You will start out in the Members Area. 

Here, you can see announcements about upcoming tours and read up a little more on the site.

What’s really frustrating is that when you click the Home menu, you are taken back to the registration page.

I have no idea why that would be the case.

You will notice that Love Me has two menu systems: one on the top of the screen and one on the left-hand side of the screen.

Let’s look at the top of the screen first.

The menus you will find here are:

• Home
• My Mail: Here you can add funds to your account, compose a letter to other users, see messages in your inbox, see your sent messages, see drafts you haven’t sent, those you have trashed and users you have blocked.
• My Preferences: This contains links to your profile, photo album, background information form and a link to take you to the platinum membership signup page
• My hotlist: Here you will find profiles of other users you have added to your hotlist
• Auto Matches: Click here to fill in match information and receive auto matches from Love Me.

The menus on the left-hand side of the screen change according to the main menu you are currently in.

So if you click on My Mail, you will see the secondary menus on the left-hand side like compose new letter, sent messages, drafts, etc. 

It really is a very different layout than any I’ve ever seen before and it really does take a bit of getting used to, that’s for sure.

Does LoveMe have an app?

No, Love Me doesn’t have an app for either Apple or Android handsets.

And because of the way the site works, I really don’t see it having one in the future either.

The site is optimized for mobile viewing, however, so if you’d prefer to use your mobile phone, well you do have that option. 

Effectiveness

As this isn’t a regular dating site, just how does it all work.

Well, you have plenty of ways to find potential matchups.

Unique to the site is the Auto Match feature.

This is a matching wizard that doesn’t present you with profiles straight away, however.

This is how it works.

First, you provide your information including your name, email address and age.

Then you provide all the information about the matchups you want to be sent.

And then you wait.

Yes, every week you will be sent potential matchups by email.

Each of these will include a member identification number that you can then use to send messages to them.

This is the only way you are going to find potential matchups that match the criteria that you are looking for.

There is no traditional way that you would search for them as you would find on other sites.

But there is a way around this if you want to do some browsing of your own while awaiting matchups.

And this is where click the Home menu comes in handy.

You remember I said it takes you back to the registration page.

Well, in this case, that is a good thing. 

Why?

Well, if you look towards the top of the screen you can see a search engine option.

Why this isn’t available when you are actually logged in is beyond me. 

Here you can adjust a host of parameters to fine-tune your search.

These include:

• Age range
• Weight
• Height
• If they have children
• English skill level
• Lifestyle parameters
• Location 

But how does this help you if you are not logged into the site?

Well, if you find someone that you like, take down their user ID number.

You can use that to get into contact with them when you have logged in again. 

In this way, you can make the search engine work for you instead of just waiting for weekly matchups from the site.

It’s a clever workaround that’s for sure.

But I really don’t understand why you can search for others on the site while you are logged in.

It just seems a little silly.

So how can you contact someone on Love Me?

Well, if you have their ID number, it’s easy enough. 

Got to your My Mail and compose a new letter.

From there you can enter the ID number of the person you’d like to send it to. 

Of course, sending a message isn’t free.

It takes the form of an email and you will have to pay $9.99 per message. 

That’s without a translation fee.

Pretty expensive, right?

It does come down in price if you are a Platinum member of the site.

Should you choose that option, the price drops to $2.99 per message.

So yes, membership doesn’t mean free messages.

If you are a female user, however, you don’t pay a cent to send messages on the platform.

What happens if you receive a message?

Is there a fee associated with that as well?

Yes, there is.

To open a message costs $5.95 for men but it’s free for women.

Let’s talk about some key features that the site has to offer.

Love Me certainly has a few unique things to offer.

1. Sending flowers

If you’d like, you can send flowers to someone that you have met through the site. 

If you’d prefer something else, you can send chocolates or candies.

Of course, you can add a letter to that as well and Love Me will have it delivered to the various countries in which it operates.

2. Phone translation service

As your relationship with someone moves forward, you can move from sending them emails or letters as Love Me calls them to actually speaking to them.

However, many of the women on Love Me have rudimentary English skills so it is best to rather use the phone translation service on offer in situations like these.

That will put you in contact with the person you want to speak to and they will have a translator to ensure that your message gets across more easily.

3. Love Me Singles Tours

Often called romance tours or AFA tours, this is what makes Love Me more of a dating agency than a regular dating site.

These tours take place in countries around the world where Love Me operates.

They operate as a way for to you meet someone that you have been speaking to on the site and often are an introduction service to see how the relationship will progress further. 

4. Accessing videos

Many users have introductory videos that you can watch.

It’s a great way to find out more about a person than looking at a profile and a static profile picture, that’s for sure.

Only Platinum members can access these videos.

Pricing

We’ve already had some ideas as to the pricing behind Love Me.

It operates very differently for other online dating portals, that’s for sure.

That’s because, if you don’t want to sign up to be a member, you don’t have to.

But that’s going to hit you in the back pocket because everything is so much more expensive. 

Let’s break everything down starting with Platinum membership, the only membership option that is offered by Love Me.

• 1-month Platinum membership – $29.95 
• Activation fee $95 (once off)

While the Platinum membership is relatively inexpensive, the activation fee certainly isn’t.

Remember, Platinum membership doesn’t mean everything else, like sending or reading a letter is free either, just discounted.

For example:

• Sending a letter is $9.99 for non-members but $2.50 for Platinum members
• Sending a letter that needs translation is $9.99 but $7.94 for Platinum members
• A three-way phone call with translation is 5.99 per minute for non-members but $2.00 for Platinum members

Note that the $29.95 that you pay does also go towards an AFA Romance Tour. 

So basically it almost acts as a savings plan towards these tours.

You can keep the credit for two years after canceling your membership as well.

And that makes it an option that is well worth it in my book.

You can use that balance at any time to book an AFA tour.

If you’d like to take out Platinum membership, you can only pay by credit card. 

Conclusion and Overall Rating

If you’ve ever used a dating site before, I am sure you will agree that Love Me: A Foreign Affair is pretty unique.

And despite the fact that the website looks a little outdated and operates in its own unique way, I found no obvious Loveme.com scam.

The site has also featured in numerous journalistic publications around the world and has won several online dating awards as well.

It’s got all the tools in place to help you meet women from all over the world including Asia, Ukraine, Latin America, Russia, the Philippines, South America and Eastern Europe.

It’s not the cheapest site, that’s for sure but you can understand why considering the services it provides.

I am still not sure why it doesn’t have a proper search feature, however, and that you have to wait for matches from the site unless I missed something.

Luckily, I was able to work around that. 

It’s also difficult to score because it is so different.

Having said that, it gets a solid 3.4 out of 5.
