Who Is It For/Demographics?

Chat sites were all the rage 20 years ago.

Most internet users back then loved shooting the breeze online, logging into chatrooms, and talking with people all over the world.

It was new and fresh.

But the novelty of chatrooms began to fade as the internet grew and new things came to the fore, for example, online gaming.

Of course, chatrooms still exist and many dating sites have them.

But they aren’t as popular as they once were, that’s for sure.

That doesn’t mean they just disappeared, however, and Chatango is an example of that.

It is not like the regular dating site (like Tinder or eHarmony), nor is it a hookup site (like BeNaughty or Ashley Madison).

Listen, it’s not going to have the user numbers of some dating sites, that’s for sure.

But let’s take a look at what it has to offer in terms of user numbers

The user numbers behind Chatango

I’m not going to lie.

Finding user numbers for Chatango wasn’t that easy.

In fact, finding an estimate of how many people have registered for profiles was impossible, despite extensive research.

There were some facts and figures that I did find, however, that gives us a few ideas:

• Chatango has been installed over 100 000 times on Android handsets (there was no figure for Apple handsets although it is available on the iStore)
• Many users come from the United States
• Around 25 000 users are active on the site each week
• That’s a little over 3 000 per day and 100 000 per month

From what I could tell, Chatango doesn’t have the biggest user base but for what it is, an app where chatting is first and foremost, that’s not a huge surprise.

That’s not something that should hold it back, however.

That’s because people on the app are there to chat with others.

And communication forms the start of any relationship, right?

Who knows what can come of it.

Gender ratio and user age ranges

I was able to find some information on the gender ratio breakdown as well as a breakdown of the most popular age ranges on Chatango.

Males dominate this app.

In fact, the ratio between male and female users is 4:1.

That’s right, 75% of all users are male with the remaining 25% female.

How will this affect you?

Well, ultimately it’s all about the gender that you want to chat with, right?

Of course, if you are a female looking to chat with males, you have plenty to choose from.

Those odds drop significantly for males wanting to chat with females.

As for age ranges, you could probably guess that Chatango is popular with the younger crowd.

The two biggest age groups on the site are from 18-24 and then 25-34 years old.

But all the other age groups are very well represented too, yes even those over 55.

Let’s give you a full breakdown:

• 18-24 years old: 31% of all users (23% are males, 8% are females)
• 25-34 years old: 29% of all users (22% are males, 7% are females)
• 35-44 years old: 17% of all users (13% are males, 4% are females)
• 55 and older: 12% of all users (10% are males, 2% are females)
• 45-54 years old: 11% of all users (8% are males, 3% are females)

As you can see, while the 18-34-year-olds make up around 60% of the users, no other group drops below 10% in their user contribution.

That said, Chatango is used more by younger users than older ones, that’s plain for all to see.

Ease Of Use

So before we get into the app itself, I want to alert you to the Chatango website.

It is related to this app and involves chatting but it’s more about building a chat system into a website you might own.

We want to focus on the app, however.

To start using the Chatango app, you first need to download it from either Google Play or the Apple iStore.

If you are worried about bandwidth, don’t be.

The app is only a few megabytes in size and installs in a matter of a few seconds.

The registration process really couldn’t be simpler.

Remember, this isn’t a dating app so to say and for that reason, it only requires a few bits of information from you.

So this is what you need to provide:

• Username
• Email address
• Password

And that’s it.

Once you provide those three bits of information and you get access to the app in full.

The app itself is nothing spectacular.

Having said that, the white and blue color scheme is pretty inviting.

Immediately, you will notice that a number of users are presented in a row on the main screen.

You will also notice three main menus:

• Clock icon: This shows your recent conversations
• People icon: This shows your friends
• Globe icon: This is the basic search engine and the default view

You can adjust what you see in the default global view by clicking the yellow search tab at the bottom right of the screen, but I will talk a little more about that later in the review.

You will also notice two more menus at the top of the screen.

The first one, which consists of three horizontals stripes.

Click on this will take you to another menu system.

These menus are:

• Groups: These are any groups you belong to
• Private messages: Here you will find any private messages that you have sent or received
• Settings: Here you can change a range of settings including sounds and vibration settings for the app
• Feedback: If you’d like to provide feedback about the app, you can do it from this menu
• Logout: Log out from Chatango here

Your Chatango Profile

Even though this is a chatting app more than a dating site, you still do have a profile.

It’s extremely basic though.

Of course, the first thing you should do is upload a profile picture of yourself.

You can also add the following information:

• Your age
• Your gender
• Your location
• An about me section

That’s it.

If you are planning on using Chatango as a way to find people to hopefully date, then you should utilize the “about me” section.

It’s here that you can put in a fair amount of relevant information including that you are looking for people to date.

On the whole, this is a very basic app.

But it doesn’t need to be fancy, does it?

The main job of Chatango is to connect people from around the world and to let them communicate with each other.

It’s not aiming to be anything more than that.

But just how effective is it in doing that and can you really use it as a dating app?

Effectiveness

Without a doubt, Chatango, although fairly basic, does provide you with the tools your need to meet people from all over the world.

While you can chat with people from different parts of the globe, the fact that you can set your location and look for others that are in your country as well as near you means that Chatango can certainly be used with dating in mind.

Let’s talk about how you go about finding people to chat to.

The only way to do that is by using the search menu which we have already highlighted above.

When you click on the yellow circle with the magnifying glass in it at the bottom right of the screen, you can make changes to what you’d like to search for.

Just don’t expect plenty of search parameters here.

So what can you change when it comes to searching?

Here are the only parameters:

• Gender
• If you’d only like search returns with photos
• The age range of search returns
• Whether you want to search worldwide or only in your country.

That’s it.

Are you given enough here to turn up matches that might be viable in your quest for love?

Yes, for sure.

In fact, on some dating sites, that’s the kind of parameters that you will get as a regular user with advanced parameters for members only.

Just note, on Chatango, there are no additional parameters to add.

In my mind, there is enough here for you to use to finding people to chat with and perhaps even date.

In other words, you’ve got the tools to make contact.

The rest is up to you.

Speaking of those tools, just how do you make contact with someone on Chatango?

Reaching out on Chatango

The great thing about Chatango is that once you’ve found a person that you’d like to chat with the process to do so is so simple.

That’s because Chatango lets users chat with each other for free.

Simply click on the person’s profile and then click on the chat button.

Type your message and click send.

That’s it.

Once they reply, you can carry on chatting to your heart’s content.

Key Features

Chatango doesn’t have that many key features.

But remember, everything on this app is free, so that’s probably the reason why.

Because it’s free, there is no need to try and entice regular users to become paying users, right?

There are a few things that you can do, however.

1. Send Private Messages

When communicating with other users, you are effectively sending private messages.

All these messages are stored and you can access them through the private message tab.

You can also delete messages by selecting them and then clicking on the trash can.

2. Send attachments

If you’d like to, you can send attachments or photos straight from your phone to other Chatango users.

To do this, simply attach them as a message.

3. Join Groups

Some users with similar interests have taken to set up groups for messaging and chats.

You are free to join any of these groups provided those who have set them up allow you to become a group member.

That’s about it for the added features of the Chatango app.

Chatango is free.

There is no payment in place when it comes to anything that Chatango has to offer.

Remember, however, that this is predominately a chat platform that doesn’t have many extra features.

That’s why you don’t have to pay a cent to use it.

Conclusion and Overall Rating

Ok so let’s get onto our conclusion and an overall rating for Chatango.

The first thing that I think that’s always important to remember when it comes to Chatango is that it’s not a dating app, but a chat app.

And it’s one that connects users from around the world.

That said, Chatango has the tools in place for you to use it as a dating app.

And in my time on the app, I saw a whole host of other users that are doing the same thing.

It’s easy to do as well because even though Chatango has a limited profile, you’ve got two things to your advantage.

First, your profile includes a picture.

Second, you can use the About Me description area to tell others of your intention and that you are looking for people to date.

Chatango also allows you to search locally, again, another great tool if you are looking for potential matchups to connect with.

Of course, you can also message anyone you find for free.

It’s important to realize that not everyone on the site wants to date, however.

But for sure, I think you can use Chatango as a way to find love.

The question is, why would you when there are actual dating apps that can do a much better job.

For something that’s a bit of fun to play around with, meet others and chat with, Chatango’s worth trying out.

Personally, however, I wouldn’t use it to try and find love although it is capable.

So let’s get onto a rating for Chatango then.

Today, it gets 2.6 out of 5.

I see it as a chat app, nothing more nothing less.

My only suggestion would be to log out of the chat app and not log back in.

That will leave your account inactive.
