DateMyAge Review 2024 – True Love or Fake Profiles?

It takes all sorts to make the dating world go around, that’s for sure.

There are dating sites for every kind of niche you can think of.

But one of those groups that are often overlooked when it comes to a dating site specifically for them are those of us in our 40s.

In the world of online dating, it can be somewhat of a neglected group that has to try and fit in on general dating sites that cater to just about everyone.

Who is it For/ Demographic Make-up?

A community of mature singles.

That’s exactly how the folks at DateMyAge describe their online dating portal.

And if you are sick of regular dating sites (like Tinder or eHarmony), or even hookup sites (like BeNaughty, or Ashley Madison) where you can’t seem to find anyone your age or keep on getting hit up by younger daters looking to exploit you, then this might just be what you’ve been looking for.

Aimed at people over 45, DateMyAge is something a little different on the dating scene, that’s for sure.

The strange thing about this website is that it doesn’t only attract people over 45.

There is no restriction on who can join up at the site and that’s reflected in the broad spectrum of users that you can find online.

Whether these younger users are dating amongst their own age groups or prefer to date more mature people is up for debate.

But they are users and contribute to the site, that’s for sure.

How big is the user base of DateMyAge?

Getting figures for the number of users on a dating website is never easy.

It’s not something that dating websites shout from the rafters and often those who do, well, the numbers they promise are never near accurate.

DateMyAge give no indication as to the number of users that you will find on the site, but some thorough research did produce some facts and figures that can provide us with a little guidance.

Here’s what I found during my research:

  • Over 1 million users have signed up for the site
  • 600 000 users are registered from the United States of America
  • Around 115 000 people are joining the site each month

I am sure you will agree, those are some impressive figures but again, are those users certainly the mature, +45-year-old the website is aimed at?

Gender ratio comparison and age breakdown

So before we get to the part where everything gets a little weird, let’s first look into the gender split for DateMyAge.

There are more men on-site than women but the difference between the two groups isn’t as big as you see on some other dating sites.

  • 58% of users on DateMyAge are men
  • 42% of users on DateMyAge are women

When we get to the age breakdown of users on-site, it starts to get a little strange.

I’ve already mentioned that although DateMyAge is aimed at mature +45s, it seems that all kinds of age ranges have registered for the site.

The two biggest groups of users on the site are the 18-24-year-olds and the 25-34-year-olds.

They make up over 50% of the users.

25% of the users on the site are aged 40 and up, the actual target market of DateMyAge.

It really is pretty bizarre that a website aimed at more mature people attracts younger age groups.

Ease of Use

So in this section of the review, we are going to look specifically at how you would go about registering for a profile, setting that profile up, and then taking your first steps in finding your way around the DateMyAge website.

How to register and start your profile on DateMyAge

You’ve got a few options as to how you can do this.

That’s because DateMayAge includes apps for both Android and Apple handsets.

So if you’d like to go the app route, all you need to do is head on to the Google Play Store or the Apple iStore download the app and register for a profile using that.

I am going to talk you through the website method of registering, however.

I just prefer to register online so I can take a good look at the terms and conditions before I commit to any dating site.

On opening the website, you will be greeted by a few things, including an example of the types of people you can expect to see online as well as some success stories from the site.

You will also notice that you can choose to register for the site using a social media account, in this case, Google.

If you don’t choose that option, select your gender, the gender you are looking for and your preferred age range for matchups.

When you select the age range, you will immediately notice that you can select younger than 45 years old, the site’s target audience.

If I am honest, that makes no sense at all, especially if you are promoting the site as one in which you can meet mature singles.

Anyway, the rest of the registration process has a few steps that you need to complete to get your profile up and ready.

So you will have to

  • Provide a brief description of yourself
  • Say what you are looking for in a potential match
  • Select from a list what you like doing for fun

The next step is to provide a profile picture of yourself and that’s it, you are ready to start browsing.

Making your way around the DateMyAge website

The first thing that strikes you when you use DateMyAge for the first time is the overall design of the site.

It’s bright, uncluttered and very modern.

You will be presented with a range of profiles straight away.

The major concern that I have about DateMyAge and the fact that many of the users are younger than 45 was immediately there to see.

Most of those profiles presented to me showed people across the age ranges, from their 20s to their 50s.

Of course, if you are using the site for its original purpose of meeting more mature people, you don’t have to interact with any of them.

Instead, you can conduct your owns searches which we will chat about later.

To navigate the site, you will use just three menus at the top of the screen.

  • Search: Launch all your searches for love from here
  • Inbox: Here you will find all the messages you send and those that you receive
  • Settings (signified by three horizontal stripes): Here you can change your profile, go live, send presents, change settings and access the help center.

So finding your way around the site is easy enough, that’s for sure.

I did notice that from the moment I logged on, within the first five minutes, I had received messages from other users, all young and all who looked like supermodels.

I will chat more about interacting with them later in the review.

Effectiveness

Now when we come to the overall effectiveness of DateMyAge, we have to judge it from the point of view of how the site is marketed.

And that’s a site for mature singles.

So the overall effectiveness starts with the type of returns you can expect when you search for matchups.

The search engine itself pretty basic and includes the following main parameters:

  • Your gender and that of the matchups you are looking for
  • The age ranges of those matchups
  • The city or country you’d specifically like to search (optional)
  • If they have video chat (optional)

There are other parameters that you can add as well.

These are related to choices that users can add to their profiles and mostly have to do with their interests, for example, camping, traveling, dancing, etc.

There are also other parameters based on lifestyle, appearance, education and the type of relationship they want.

In the searches I conducted, first across the more mature age ranges from 45 and upwards as well as searches with younger age ranges, there were many profiles returned.

What worries me is that along with the constant messages I was receiving, many of the people in those returned searches looked like supermodels.

Sure, there was some regular folk but I feel like this site is filled with fake profiles or bots.

Making contact

So from all the profile returns I received, I selected a few that look like regular people and reached out to them.

But that wasn’t very successful at all.

That’s because you can only fire off a few messages before you get taken to the membership upgrade page.

Their replies to you are also blurred and to read them, yes, you are going to have to take out membership on the site.

Key Features

If you’ve signed up for a membership on a dating site before, you probably used to a traditional package where one-month membership is $24.99, for example, and you get access to the member features on the site.

At DateMyAge, membership provides you with credits, which you then can use on the site to send messages, virtual gifts, and other key features.

1. Messaging

For me, messaging is the most important tool on any dating site.

Without it, how are you going to contact anyone or they contact you?

Just note that to message someone, you will use up the credits that form part of your membership package.

One message is one credit.

2. Chat by video

Prefer to see who you are talking to in real-time?

Then the chat by video option is just what you need.

But yes, it’s going to cost you.

For every one minute you chat, that’s going to be two credits.

Note, that with this option, you only see the other user, they don’t see you.

3. Two-way video chat

If the person you are chatting to wants you also to be part of the video aspect of it, you can opt for a two-way chat.

This is a real-time video chat option that costs six credits for every minute.

While both the one-way and two-way video chats are going to use credits quickly, at least it gives you an idea of the person on the other side and you can tell if they are who they say they are.

That’s critical on a site that seems to have so many fake profiles.

4. Purchase virtual gifts

Yes, if you’d like to, you can use your credits to send virtual gifts to other users of DateMyAge.

Virtual champagne, cuddly toys and many more options are available.

Of course, they are going to cost you credits as well.

5. Let’s mingle

Other than messaging, “Let’s Mingle” is probably the second-best feature that DateMyAge has to offer.

It’s basically a broadcast to other users.

That broadcast takes the form of a message, for example, “I’m looking to meet new people from all over the world”.

It’s a great way to introduce yourself to potential matchups and to see if they start talking back to you.

Overall, if I am totally honest, the key features that you get for membership are just a way to have you spend more credits on the site.

And how much are membership and credits going to cost?

Pricing

So we’ve already established that membership on DateMyAge is different from most other sites.

That’s because you are paying a package fee to receive a certain number of credits which you then use on-site to send messages, virtual gifts, or video chat.

Without these credits, your site isn’t going to help you find love.

So what are the options that are available to you when it comes to purchasing credits?

Well, there are three:

  • 150 credits a month – $19.99
  • 600 credits a month – $149.99
  • 1500 credits a month – $299.99

Believe it or not, that $19.99 for 150 credits was on special at the time of writing this interview.

It’s usually $49.99.

And considering you are spending on credit to send a message or 10 credits to send an email, you can imagine how fast you are going to use them up, especially if you use the site every day.

Again, I got back to the fact that many profiles just don’t seem legit to me and all the constant messaging is just a way to get you to spend your money.

Conclusion and Overall Rating

So let’s get to the end of all of this.

Throughout this review, I constantly talked about two things:

  • Why does a website that says it’s for mature dating have more younger users on it than older users
  • The fact that many of the profiles on the site seem to be supermodels (read: fake or bots).

Both of those things really bother me and it just doesn’t make sense to me at all.

I’ve no doubt that DateMyAge had users like me and you, those who into their more mature years and are looking for love.

And if you are prepared to put in the time, I am sure you can find like-minded people to chat to and who knows, maybe something could grow out of that.

But I really don’t think the overall intentions of DateMyAge are to bring those of us who are 45 and older together to find love.

The site has some really decent aspects to it.

It’s fun to find your way around such a well-designed site that pleasant on the eye, but I still feel that for the most part, everything is geared towards you buying credits and using them on the site.

I would have felt far more comfortable if DateMyAge included a regular membership package where you pay a certain amount and get to use all the key features for free afterwards.

Ok, so onto my rating.

I am only giving DateMyAge 2 out of 5.

While it’s easy to register and sign-up for a profile, the key features and the fact that you constantly pay for them as well as the expensive membership options really let the site down.

And then there’s the fact that you constantly feel that you are being conned when it comes to some of the users the site returns in searches as well as those who are constantly contacting you.

Have you tried the site?

Or after reading this review, do you think it’s worthwhile for someone who is 45 or older to look for love on DateMyAge?

Frequently Asked Questions

Facts

For the most part, I would say this is a safe dating site.

It’s free to register and set up a profile as well as browse the site.

Your first few messages to contact others are free too.

But that’s about it.

Afterwards you will need credits to send messages, video chat with others or send virtual gifts.

Without these credits, you cannot use this site effectively.

Yes, this is a legit dating site but I question if it provides users with what it promises.

There are far too many fake profiles on the site and over half the users are younger than 45 years old which is the actual target age of the audience the site is aimed at.

DateMyAge claims to have over 1 million users around the globe.

600 000 of them come from the United States and apparently over 100 000 people join each month.

Account

If you’d prefer, you can sign up for a DateMyAge account by downloading the app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple iStore.

Or simply head to the website and register in the traditional manner of all dating sites which takes a few minutes.

If you prefer to speed it up a little, use your Google Account for a one-click login.

You need to be logged into the DateMyAge site if you want to delete your profile

First, select the “menu” tab.

From there, click on “settings”.

Scroll down to “manage account” and click on “go here to hide or delete your account”.

Follow the instructions if you’d like to delete your account but if you think you’d use the site again at some point, you are better off hiding it.

There are two ways to contact the team at DateMyAge.

Either email them at [email protected] or fill in the contact form which you can find here.

Usability

It’s a search-based algorithm that factors in what you are looking for in terms of certain parameters and returns matches based on that.

Be ready to sift through many fake profiles, however.

To block someone you must open the message window while in their profile

Then click on the three dots (…) at the top of the message interface and select “block” user.
