Who Is It For/Demographics?
And it covers a full range of participants.
Whether you are a man, a woman, a couple (regular or same-sex), a group of individuals, or from the TS/TV/TG community, SwapFinder has a hook up for you.
That’s right, it serves a full spectrum when it comes to target audiences that the site is marketed towards.
In fact, SwapFinder claims to be the biggest Swinger dating site on the web.
SwapFinder | So how many users does it have?
SwapFinder has been around since 1996 and in that time, has built a user base from all over the world.
Here, it’s all about hooking up for physical fun, without the emotional connection.
Users on SwapFinder don’t want long-term love, that’s for sure.
But how many users has the site garnered over more than two decades of operating as a hook up site for singles, swinging couples and groups?
40 million is the claim.
That’s a huge amount of people right.
And there is a fair chance that no matter where you find yourself in the world, you are going to find SwapFinder users near you or at least in your country.
But as it’s a sister site of AdultFriendFinder as well as 99Flavors, I am going to say that the 40 million user claim includes users from those sites combined.
And dating sites that have sister sites often do this.
But still, even if all the users are combined, there’s no doubt that this is one busy site.
Here are a few other bits of information that you might find useful:
- Around 6 million users come from the United States
- 70 000 users log into the site each day
- That’s close to 500 000 each week
Gender ratio and the most popular age groups
If you’ve ever used a dating site like this, you probably would already know that male users normally outnumber female users.
It’s just the ratio that changes from site to site.
This is not only true for hook up sites like SwapFinder, but those that present a certain female user type, for example datings sites where Western men look for long-term love from Eastern European or Asian women.
It’s just a phenomenon that’s part of the online dating scene.
So yes, we know that on SwapFinder, male profiles are more common than female profiles.
But by how much?
Well, for every female profile you come across, there will be two male profiles.
Actually, it’s a little more but I’ve rounded it down.
Let’s look at it from a percentage point of view.
- 70% of the users on SwapFinder are males
- 30% of the users on SwapFinder are females
Remember though, users on this website come from every kind of sexual persuasion and with over 40 million users to choose from, no doubt, what you are looking for specifically in a matchup can be found here.
Now let’s look at age ranges because they make for extremely interesting reading in the fact that the busiest age group is not one that I would have expected.
And that’s the 55+ users.
Yes, they are the most active people on the site and makeup 30% of all users.
The breakdown of this group also goes against the overall gender ratio breakdown in the fact that 22% of the users found here are male and 8% are female,
The next biggest group falls back towards the other end of the age spectrum.
And that’s the 25-34 year-olds who make up 23% of the users on site.
This group is 15% male and 8% female.
But here’s a full breakdown of the age-ranges of users that have made profiles on SwapFinder
- 55+ (30% of the overall user base, 22% male and 8% female)
- 25-34 year-olds (23% of the user base, 15% male and 8% female)
- 45-54 year-olds (19% of the user base, 15% male and 4% female)
- 35-44 year-olds (15% of the user base, 10% male and 5% female)
- 18-24 year-olds (13% of the user base, 8% male and 5% female)
The anomaly here for me is the fact that the 25-34-year-old’s are firmly stuck in the middle of two older groups while 18-24 year-olds provide the least amount of users on the site.
I can’t really think of any reason as to why that would be.
It’s also not often that you see the 55+ age group as the biggest on a site like this.
If this was a senior dating site, of course, it would be but on a hook up Swingers site, it’s interesting.
Apparently, those oldies like to get it on with others, right?
Ease of Use
SwapFinder presents a simple registration interface and it won’t take too much of your time to get your profile up and running on-site.
Initially, you have to provide a few bits of information to get the process started.
- Who is registering for the site (male, female, couple, group, TS/TV/TG)
- What you are looking for (male, female, couple, group, TS/TV/TG)
After that, you will provide:
- Location (country, state, city)
- Email address (it must be valid as you will have to reply to an email from SwapFinder to get access to the site)
- Body type
- Sexual orientation
- Marital status
- Living situation
Or you can choose to skip these steps and do them later.
As always, when I am setting up accounts on dating sites, I like to get my profile sorted as soon as possible.
It speaks for you when you can’t and a completed profile means that you might be in the sights of other users as a potential matchup, so it doubles your chances of finding someone, right?
Site layout and finding your way around
On the whole, SwapFinder is not a very difficult site to navigate.
It has a range of menu’s that you will find at the top of the screen and each of these will be used during your time on the site, some more than others, however.
Let’s take a look at what these menus are and what they do.
- Home (portrayed by a little house logo): To go back to the main SwapFinder page, you can click on this.
- Mailbox (portrayed by an envelope): Any messages you received from other users will be found here. It keeps track of your sent messages as well.
- Instant message (portrayed by a speech bubble): If you receive an instant message, you will find it here.
- Notifications (portrayed by a bell logo): Important notifications regarding messages etc are recorded here.
- My Stuff: There are a bunch of sub-menus to be found under this menu. For example, you can click here for your profile or to edit it, you can manage your photo uploads, see users who have flirted with you or viewed your profile and more.
- Search: Launch your searches for potential matchups here.
- Live-action: Hook up sites always have live-action cams and SwapFinder is no different.
- Community: Under the community tab you can start your own blog or read the blogs of other users.
Other than the main navigational menus that you will find at the top of the screen, there are a few others to the left-hand side of the screen as well which appear when you are on the home page.
These provide you with another way to access your messages but also with statistics like who has viewed flirted with you or viewed your profile amongst other information.
I must admit, it took me a little time to find my way around SwapFinder.
There’s plenty of main menus and then sub-menus under those.
But it’s not too confusing and after spending an hour or two on the site, I worked out what menus were important and which weren’t that critical.
You will also notice that the site uses some social networking aspects in the form of a newsfeed where you can see the updates made by other users.
Just a word of warning, however.
This is a hook up site, so some profiles do contain nudity.
And yes, there are live cams, so that means more nudity although you probably wouldn’t be using a hookup site if that bothered you, right?
So does SwapFinder have the tools that you need to find the kind of matchup that you are looking for?
Remember, this isn’t a site for males to meet females or vice versa.
SwapFinder says that it can hook you up couples, groups and more.
And to do that, SwapFinder provides you with a search engine that seems to live up to its overall promise.
You will notice that if you are on the home page, SwapFinder will provide matchups for you.
These are location-based and you should find that if there are users near you, they will appear here.
Of course, it’s worthwhile checking through these potential matchups if you have the time but after a while, you are going to be launching searches of your own, right?.
Using SwapFinder’s search engine
The great thing about the search engine on SwapFinder is that it allows you to search for so many different types of returns.
Your search options are:
- Couples (man/woman)
- Couple (2 women)
- Couple (2 men)
You can search for one category at a time, or group a few together depending on the type of returns you would prefer.
That’s just the start though because SwapFinder allows you to set a whole bunch of parameters for each of your searches.
These are based on information that you will find in your and other users’ profiles, so you can opt to change a few parameters or fine-tune them to only return the exact kind of matchups you want.
And while that kind of fine-tuning can be detrimental on a site with a few users, when there are 40 million, even those fine-tuned searches should turn up potential matchups.
Here’s an example of some of the search filters that you can choose.
- Membership options
- Do they have photos
- Do they have videos
- Sexual orientation
- Body Type
- Physical aspects (hair and eye color, height, hair length)
- How they swing
- Do they drink
- Do they smoke
- Marital status
- Children (do they have and do they want)
- Astrological sign
I love dating sites that provide so many search parameters.
Usually, however, they are hidden behind paywalls.
But that’s not the case with SwapFinder, which is refreshing.
How do you make contact with someone on SwapFinder?
It’s so far so good for non-paying users on SwapFinder.
With all the options you have at your disposal to find potential matchups, you should be able to find at least a few that are worth following up on.
But how do you get into contact with them?
And more importantly, can you do it without having to pay for a membership, like most dating sites?
Well, the short answer is yes.
But there are workarounds.
If you’ve found someone that you want to get to know better, if you want to send them a message, you are going to have to take out some form of membership on the site.
But that doesn’t rule out some kinds of communication.
If you access their photos, should they have posted more than a profile pic, you can comment on them.
Is this an effective form of messaging?
Not really, but it’s better than nothing.
Speaking of membership, let’s see what key features that you will get out of it.
Should you take out one of SwapFinder’s membership options, these are the type of key features that you can expect.
1. You can send and receive messages
I’ve already talked about it but let’s expand a little.
If you opt for membership, you don’t have to use comments to try and chat with someone, you can send messages instead.
That’s right, as a member you can send as many messages to as many other users as you want.
Not only that but if you received messages as a regular user, you could only see a short preview, not the full message.
Now, as a member, should anyone else message you first, you can read their messages instantly.
Members also have an instant messaging system that acts like a chat room and is far faster than the regular messaging system.
From time to time, SwapFinder will hold various contests on the site.
These are only open to members so if you fancy joining in, as a member you can.
3. Sex Academy
An added extra for SwapFinder is Sex Academy.
This is an outside affiliate site that’s only available to members who have taken out the Gold membership option (the top membership on the site).
Sex Academy includes sex tips, new positions, and other educational aspects for members of SwapFinder to browse through.
4. Add Friends
Another social networking aspect of SwapFinder is the ability for you to add Friends.
It’s not such a big deal but you can build up a network of like-minded people in this way, especially keeping people you may have hooked up with close.
5. View full-sized photos
Members of SwapFinder are able to view all the photos posted by other users.
Not only that, but you can see them in their full-sized glory, not a small picture that you need a magnifying glass to see properly.
6. View videos
As part of your profile, you are allowed to upload videos should you choose to.
Members of SwapFinder can then watch these videos all the way through.
While there are quite a few key features there is nothing that really stands out for me other than the fact that you can message people effectively.
Is that enough at the end of the day?
Well, I guess that depends on how you feel about the pricing, so let’s take a closer look at that, shall we.
I am specifically going to talk about the Gold membership option because that’s what gives you access to all the key membership features on the site.
Gold membership has three different duration options: 1-month, 3-months and 12-months.
The breakdown of the pricing for those options is as follows:
- 1-month membership – $39.95
- 3-months membership – $80.85 ($26.95 per month)
- 12-months membership – $239.40 ($19.95 per month)
For me, $39.95 is very steep for a membership to this site.
At the end of the day, I don’t think it’s worth it.
Of course, you can bring that monthly price down by opting for a longer contract, like one for three months for example, but that’s an $80 outlay.
Of course, should you want to use the site effectively, membership is your only option.
There’s another way for you to spend your cash on SwapFinder.
And that’s buy buying credits which you can use on the site.
Here’s a breakdown of what those credits are going to cost you.
- 200 credits – $3.00
- 500 credits – $6.00
- 1 000 credits – $10.00
For the most part, these credits are going to be used to send things like virtual gifts.
Are they necessary?
Well, certain users might be impressed with them but I just think they are a waste of money.
Conclusion and Overall Rating
So at the end of this comprehensive review of SwapFinder, let’s take a little about the site.
When it comes to users, this isn’t a site that has 40 million on its own.
That number is an amalgamation of all the sister sites that are in the same stable of dating sites as SwapFinder, like AdultFriendFinder, for example.
Also, if you read about SwapFinder on the net, it’s not always painted in the best light.
There’s plenty of talk of fake profiles and bots.
For dating sites like this, that’s nothing new and you are going to have to work through your matchups to find the right kind of people to hook up with.
The overall site design is functional but it does take a little bit of time to get used to.
If you’ve used one of SwapFinder’s sister sites before like AdultFriendFinder, you should have no problem finding your way around.
And expect a lot of advertising and nudity.
There’s nothing much you can do about the advertising but there is a content filter under settings where you make adjustments that will help cut out the nudity if that’s what you prefer.
The last thing I want to talk about before I give my overall rating is the membership, particularly the pricing.
For what’s on offer to members, I really think the pricing is a little exorbitant, but that’s just my personal feelings.
So what rating am I going to give SwapFinder?
It gets 3 out of 5.
It’s a solid site that provides you with lots of options for matchups but it’s pretty pricey when it comes to membership.
