What are Swedish Men Like?
Before I get deep into the question “what are Swedish men like?”, you have to know just one more thing.
Sweden used to be filled with hot Swedish guys, and only Swedish ones, but now there’s actual diversity in the game.
This Scandinavian country is one of the most welcoming countries for immigrants, and plenty of people from all over the world have decided to move here and find themselves and their new lives.
In other words, not all Swedish guys are going to be like this or look the way that I described them, but the real natives of Sweden, and maybe some other, will fit the description almost perfectly.
Get ready to meet Swedish men and learn how to get them close to you!
You know that I had to give them the highest grade.
I mean, just look at them.
And I’m not the only one who thinks so, admit it!
Year after year, Swedish people get voted as the sexiest nation on this planet, and that’s for a good reason.
Both men and women look absolutely stunning.
I mean, LOOK AT THEM!
If you read my guide on Irish men, you know that I like me a pale guy.
(I mean, I like a lot of guys 😉 )
And Swedish men are just like that.
Pale, blond, and those blue eyes!
Okay, enough of daydreaming for me!
Typical Swedish men have these piercing blue eyes that are going to make you feel like you’re melting on the inside as soon as you look at them.
Or they look at you, hopefully.
I mean, that’s the plan here, hello!
Blue eyes aren’t a common trait in the world, and most of them can be found in Sweden.
Also, most of them are blond and the color of their skin is pretty light, which really fits the Swedish men stereotypes, but I got nothing to complain about.
There are also great looking Swedish guys with dark hair and dark eyes, so there’s plenty to choose from.
But, still, you would have to look much harder for this, to be honest.
Just like their neighbors in Denmark and Norway, the Swedish males are pretty tall.
The average height of guy from this country is about 5’11”, which doesn’t make them one of the tallest people in Europe but it certainly gets them there.
Swedish men care about their looks but in a humble way.
They take care to always look good, but they don’t go overboard.
They believe in nature and the natural look.
You certainly won’t find savage Swedish men with pieces of meat stuck in their beards.
Natural products are a way to go in this cold country, and most of the time you’ll see sexy Swedish men with great beards.
Just take a stroll around the streets of Stockholm and you’ll find some of these fine specimens.
And if you see a guy that looks or acts nothing like them, he’s probably a tourist.
We all know of the Scandinavian style, mostly because we’re all familiar with this magical place called IKEA.
Well, the key elements here are simplicity and elegance at the same time, and we could say the same thing for the way that the Swedish men dress.
They’re humble, so you most likely won’t see them straight out bragging, but Swedish men will wear some of the more expensive items and style them with ease, like it’s nothing.
When you think of men fashion, you probably think of France.
Well, if that is a big ”girly” for you, so to say, I am happy to say that Swedish men are stylish but in a very subtle way.
They have plenty of that sleek Scandinavian style that we know and love, and there are even some other brands that come from these beautiful people that you might be able to recognize.
For example, Acne. This is definitely one of the more popular exports that Sweden has, in the fashion sense, of course.
All in all, these men have style and they know how to dress for the occasion, no matter what it is.
Additional Rating – The Tinder 1000 Swipe Rating
On top of the physical trait ratings for Swedish men, we have also created our own additional rating from the Swedish men we see on Tinder. We call it the 1,000 Tinder swipe rating. It is extremely accurate and gives a very good overall picture of the men and how attractive they are.
This is how it works.
We swiped through 1000 different profiles in all of the major cities of Sweden and took note of how many handsome men there are. We jotted down how many 8’s, 9’s and 10’s there are based on their profile pictures. Here is a quick breakdown.
- 0-100 is poor
- 100-200 is OK
- 200-300 is Good
- 300 – 400 Is Incredible
- 400 + is Mindblowing (There are only a few of these)
With a Tinder Plus subscription, you can teleport to anywhere in the world and swipe for yourself. Find out more below In the section about how to meet Swedish men. Also, make sure to check out my other country guides to see how their Tinder scores compare.
Character Traits of Swedish Men
Now let’s get to the more important things. This country is filled with handsome Swedish guys, but their looks aren’t telling us anything about the way that they’re really like.
What are Swedish guys like in relationships?
There are some things that most Swedish guys have in common when it comes to their personality, and I’m going to list them here.
Continue reading to find out more about what are Swedish guys like.
1. Gentleman Rating
You might be wondering why I gave them such a low rating when I have been praising them all along.
Well, the thing is, we have a bit of a problem here.
When we say “gentleman,” we think about a guy who’s going to treat us like queens, buy us flowers, hold the door open, and maybe most importantly, pay for the bill.
Swedish guys do none of those things, unless they feel like it.
The good thing about Sweden is its continuous practice of gender equality, but for American women looking for Swedish men, this might be a bit of a shock, especially when it comes to paying the bill.
I mean, it did come as quite a shock to me!
I am not like “I am a lady, buy me stuff”, but I didn’t expect this way of practicing equality, I have to admit.
In Sweden, it’s usual to split the bill between the two of you, so don’t expect to go out, eat and drink, and not have to pay a penny for it.
This is because men and women are considered equal, which is a good thing, of course, but it also means that there is most likely going to be no one to swoon you and make you fall in love by just being kind and romantic.
But at least they won’t expect you to stay at home and take care of the house while they go to work and other similar things, so that has to be a win for sure.
Their whole philosophy can also be connected to the way that Swedish men in bed act.
There’s some action here for you too, gurl! 😉
Forget about being a starfish, you have to put in a little bit of work too!
Swedish men have integrity and they have pride. They are proud of who they are and where they come from and the Vikings in their blood make them feel the connection to their family.
They’re loving and they’re kind and they’re absolutely family people who would give anything for their loved ones.
For a country so cold you’d be surprised to see how many people carry the warmth inside their hearts.
The guys from Sweden are always honest because they believe that they have nothing to hide.
Their honesty is going to be one of the best things that you have ever experienced, and they’re going to tell you whatever you need or don’t relay need to know.
However, there’s a small problem with communication here. You will most likely be able to get your Swedish boyfriend to answer any questions that you have, but only if you’re a very patient person.
This is a big country. People are used to having their private space and their private thoughts, and they love being seen individuals.
This is what makes them not as communicative as we are, but they’re going to tell you everything if you try hard enough.
Before you go in you have to know that Swedish guys have a really high sex drive, but there are no worries.
They value their relationships and if you’re dating Swedish men you’re basically good for life if you ask them.
Swedish dating culture is different from ours, but there will be more on that later.
Of course, all of these things about loyalty could prove to be completely wrong if you happen to have the worst luck and run into the wrong guy.
If this happens, he’ll be the only exception.
5. How protective are they?
The hot Swedish men that you choose to date are going to protect you no matter what, but they’re going to take it slow.
There’s no such thing as rushing in Sweden, even though everything is always organized and on time.
Your man is going to protect you if he thinks that you can’t protect yourself, because of the whole equality thing.
However, they aren’t going to be overprotective and not let you leave the house and talk to other men.
They believe that your relationship should be based on trust and honesty and you should give it to them.
Dating Swedish man is a blessing and a curse.
6. Are they resourceful?
The Swedish guys are incredibly resourceful.
Firstly, they all know how to cook! Well, to some extent.
This is something that they teach them in school, so that they can know how to survive in the world.
There’s also plenty of other things that they teach them there, and many of them are housework related, so you don’t have to worry about any problems.
However, it might be expected from you to also do these things, since girls are taught that too.
Also, Swedish people can earn some pretty stable and big income, so you know that they are resourceful in this way, but you’re also supposed to pitch in.
These guys aren’t childish at all and they are going to listen to anything that you have to say, but I still have to take some points off because they’re just so silent!
I’m the kind of person who believes that you should say what’s on your mind, and not just keep it bottled up for whatever reason, and the fact that these typical Swedish guys are so silent is driving me crazy.
So, I have to say that they are more mature than most of the men on this planet, but they still lack in the communication department.
Swedish guys look good and they’re not afraid to show it when they want to.
But, they’re also extremely humble at the same time so you won’t catch them bragging about it a lot.
In Sweden it’s kind of considered rude to brag too much, so you’ll actually almost never catch them do it.
However, remember that the fact that he’s confident doesn’t mean that you can talk down on him and straight-up insult him, that have an effect on anyone’s ego.
9. Are they friendly or reserved?
Ah, Sweden, the cold, cold land!
The people also might be cold at first, but that’s because there are some guidelines that you should follow.
As I said before, Swedish people are used to a big amount of personal space around them, so approaching them isn’t easy because it will most likely make them feel a little uncomfortable.
Also, they have this fear of approaching people and getting into small talk because they’re afraid that the person was doing something important and they interrupted them.
But, you’re not Swedish, so feel free to go wild.
Don’t expect an immediate response, because they will probably be too shy to answer you at first.
But under all of those layers, there’s a warm and loving heart that you will be glad to meet.
The overall score does not give a perfect account of these men, considering that they are some of the most reserved and handsome men in Europe.
Being reserved doesn’t depict that they are unapproachable.
They are generous and, Of course, everyone knows they are quite protective of their loved ones and that is a big plus.

Pros and Cons of Dating a Swedish Man
Let’s be honest, international dating has never been easy.
But there are some things in this particular case that make it seem easy, and others that are making it harder for us.
Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of dating Swedish guys.
1. You get to live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world!
I know that Sweden is cold, and that might make it seem unwelcoming at times, especially to strangers.
But imagine this: it is cold outside but you’re at home, curled up in a blanket with one of your Swedish guys in bed, and you’re drinking hot chocolate or tea, and you’re warm all over.
Doesn’t that give you the permanent state of the holiday’s ideal?
Not to mention that there are plenty of things that you can do if you just go outside and enjoy life with your new Swedish boyfriend.
2. No problem with the language barrier
Dating a Swedish man isn’t like one of those typical international dating stories because in Sweden people actually learn English.
You don’t have to worry about miscommunication or constantly looking for the pocket-sized dictionary that you got at the airport just so you can tell him what to get from the store.
Swedish guys speak great English, but nothing is stopping you from putting in some work and learning a couple of Swedish words and phrases, slowly but surely.
3. Gender equality
Hello, this is the thing that we wanted for ages!
To be honest, the chance to be free of the norms and be your own woman feels so freeing, especially in this country where you’ll have hot Swedish men all around you.
You’re on the same level as everyone else, and there’s no need to show that you’re on the same level as them because that’s something that they just know.
Your man is going to treat you like you’re his equal, as it should be, and not like you’re just a trophy that he collected.
It’s really progressive and paves the way for more things like this to happen in the world around us.
1. They just aren’t the best gentleman
The whole gender equality thing is kind of throwing the traditional meaning of gentleman under the bus here.
So if you wanted to get your hands on some of the handsome Swedish men and make him surprise you with grant romantic gestures you’re in for a bad surprise.
What are Swedish men like in relationships? Well, not that romantic.
They’re here for you, but if you want the romance to bloom all around you it would be best if you picked someone from one of the neighboring countries.
2. Communication is key…or not
The one thing that definitely pissed me of while I was doing my research in Sweden was the fact that I had to pull the words out of their mouths.
Single Swedish men are plenty, but what’s the point if they only say two words and then leave?
They’re great at listening to whatever you want to talk to them about, but as soon as you ask them something about themselves you’ll get completely indefinite answers, and maybe even none at all.
This is why you need a lot of patience before you get into this adventure.
3. They love rules
Seriously, good luck in finding some Swedish guy who’s spontaneous.
They love planning and sticking to the plan and they’re always on time. If you’re a more chill type of person you might find this behavior of their s tiring, which it kind of is.
Not everything has to be perfectly planned and executed, sometimes we just got to live in the moment.

Where to Meet a Swedish man
If you were wondering how to meet Swedish men you’re in the right place because I have some Swedish guy dating tips to teach you.
There are two options to meet sexy Swedish guys. You either meet them in real life, at the bar or in the club, or you can do it online using a bunch of dating websites available to you.
When it comes to this option remember that Swedish guys are shy and probably won’t talk to you if you just approach them, but that’s exactly why I added the bar and the club as the better options.
Also, before I continue, you should know that gender equality also extends in this direction. It’s not expected from a man to always approach a woman first, they have equal parts to play in it.
So go up to a guy that you think you like and don’t waste any more time!
Buy him a drink if you feel like it, because the liquid courage in his system is going to make him open up to you more and just be less shy.
But, how to meet Swedish men with less social outings involved?
If that’s really not your style you can always find some single Swedish guys on various dating websites that you can use in this country.
Some of the dating sites that are mostly used are Badoo, OkCupid, Happy Pancake, and Match.
You probably heard about most of them because they’re international and cater to international dating, but I had to pick one that was the absolute best for me, and that is the website Badoo.
Badoo is more of a social media network that people use for both serious and casual dating, but you can find people based on location on it, so I had to put it as one of the best ones.
If you were asking where to meet Swedish men this is the pace for you.
The sign up is easy, there are a couple of things that you have to fill out, like your name, location, age, and gender.
You can also choose whether you’re looking for friendship or dating, to make the selection and the whole match process easier for you.
Add a photo now or later, whenever you feel like it, and wait until you get the confirmation email to let you know that you are officially a new member of this network.
They might ask you to verify your photo, but they also might not.
Fill out your profile with all the data that you feel comfortable giving, because that way you’ll maximize your chances at getting the man of your dreams.
This is a free service, but if you feel like it, you can pay up some more for a premium membership that will do a couple of things to you.
You might notice that people’s pictures are blurry, and that’s because you’re not a premium member.
But as soon as you become one you will be able to see them and send them messages freely.
Be careful of the scammers and don’t just answer to anybody, good luck!
How to conquer a Swedish man’s heart
We went through all the Swedish guy stereotypes and I told you where to meet Swedish guys, but now comes the real deal that we’re going to have to solve.
I have some Swedish men dating tips that re going to help you overcome any obstacles in your way.
1. Invite him to a fika
A fika is a kind of a social outing that doesn’t have any labels to it.
You go for a coffee or a snack together and you don’t call it a date or something like that.
Remember, dating a Swedish guy means taking things slow.
But once you’re going out to fikas, it’s assumed that you’re only doing this with one person.
So start small and you’ll see where it takes you.
2. Approach him first
There’s no shame in the game, especially in Sweden.
If you meet Swedish guys that you like just go for it!
You’re the only person who’s going to feel weird about it, because that’s just how it is in Sweden and it’s completely normal. Single Swedish guys just wait around to get approached, looking beautiful.
If you want something, go get it.
3. Show him that you’re his equal
Show him that you’re as capable and successful as he is, because that’s going to show him that you’re a possible candidate for something more than just a couple of dates.
Dating Swedish guys means that you don’t have to imagine the future where you’re cleaning the house and cooking for your husband all day every day.
4. Learn his language
how him that you care about his heritage, something that he is really passionate about, buy learning his language.
Just learning a couple of new words every day and trying hard will show him that you’re willing to work for this love and your life together in Sweden.
He probably already speaks English pretty well, so you guys will have no problem in communicating.
5. Don’t rush to marry him
This could be one of the most important Swedish guy dating tips, because it’s so different from the world that we grew up in.
In Sweden, it’s completely normal to get married much much later in life and to live together and have a family before that.
They take things slow, because there’s no need to rush, and you should do the same.
Show him that you care about him through some other ways if you feel the need to do so.

But, on the other side, I’m sure that they won’t disappoint.
1. Prince Carl-Philip of Sweden
Of course, this list has to start with an absolute prince. Or should I say, a literal prince.
I have to admit it, he looks nothing like a typical swede does.
His dark curly hair and dark eyes give him a sense of something exotic even in the country that he’s the prince of.
He has stolen the hearts of many people from all around the world, including me.
Prince Carl-Phillip is a part of the Swedish royal family. He is the son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Sylvia.
Are you surprised to find out that he’s 40 years old? He has that timeless look on his face, and he doesn’t look that old at all.
2. Kristian Matsson
You know that I love a talented guy.
This man is a musician, and his stage name is The Tallest Man on Earth. Of course, this is not true, but he’s still such a cutie if you ask me.
He’s been in the industry since 2006, which makes for 13 consecutive years of stealing people’s hearts.
Also, 13 years of producing his own music. Isn’t that cool?
Not only does he have a beautiful voice, but he’s also amazing to look at.
If you have a chance to go to one of his concerts, go. It’s definitely a thing worth seeing.
3. Alex Lundqvist
This is another dark-haired darling.
Alex is a model, and he’s obviously killing it.
The first big company that he worked for was Versace, and he did a campaign with them.
After that, his career skyrocketed and he was able to do much more with his modeling.
He’s almost 50 years old, but he looks absolutely amazing.
And there you go, guys!
Now you know how and where to meet Swedish men, how to act with them and win over their hearts, and most importantly, what to expect from them.
